Hugh “Luke” O’Hara

Retired in 2013. Graduated from Elon in 1964. Graduated from the Navy Officer Candidate School (OCS) in the spring of 1965. Ray Mahan was a couple of classes ahead on me at OCS. Served 3 years on the USS Sampson, a destroyer, as a Supply Corp Officer and was fortunate to have been on two 6 months cruises to the Mediterranean. After the Navy spent a career in sales and business development including 20 years with Itek Corporation, a manufacture of printing and graphic equipment. Worked at Management Concepts, a privately held training company from 1999-2013. In 1969, met Beverly Goodnight – the luckiest day of my life – in Blue Knob, PA at a ski resort where Bud Roeder and I rented a cabin. Bev and I were married in 1970 and bought a house in Falls Church and have been extremely blessed with 4 wonderful children, Hugh “Tripp”, Megan, Molly and Katie who all live near us including Megan who lives next door. We have 9 grandchildren, Hugh III, Alexander, Braeden, Nicholas, Katherine, Ella, Madeline, Elizabeth and Mark. Interests include being with family, my work, travel, golf, pickleball, and the following programs that are involved with bringing university age students from Ireland, South Africa, and the Middle East to Washington as interns for the summer to help with reconciliation in their counties: The Washington~Ireland Program, South Africa~Washington Intern Program and The New Leadership Story in the Middle East. Also thoroughly enjoy keeping up with my fellow GMHS classmates.
